The Management Committee Chairman,
Barkin Ladi Local Government Council, North Central Nigeria, Barrister Ezekiel
Mandyau has said that the Council would soon look into the issues of
contractors that have genuinely fulfilled their part of contractual obligation
with the Local Government but have not been paid. Mandyau made this statement
on Wednesday at the conference Hall of the Council after receiving an Audit
Report of a 7- man committee headed by Philip Sambo.
The Committee was
said to have been set up in October this year to look into issues of Assets and
Liabilities of the Local Government.
“I receive this
report with much gratitude after taking your time to painstakingly submit this
report finally. With the caliber of members of this committee, we are confident
to say that we will indeed, find this report useful and valuable" said the
Chairman.
African Drum reports that Barrister Mandyau
said that it became imperative to set up the committee when the management team
assumed office so as to have a basis for effective operation stressing that the
clarification was necessary to disabuse the minds of whoever might think the
committee was aimed at witch hunting. “We feel that it only make sense if we
have an idea of the genuineness of Assets and Liabilities of the local
government. So, we believe this report will help in guiding us
appropriately", he said.

The Council boss
further noted that the management team would painstakingly go through the
report and ensured it is vigorously implemented not for anything but for
posterity sake and to satisfy their conscience. "We are not doing this to
receive any applause but we are doing it because we feel our conscience tells
us to do so”, he said. Mandyau said that the report will surely guide the
Council to know how people rendered services or delivered goods to the local
government but payments had been lingering for years.
The Chairman said
that another reason why management team would ensure the implementation of the
report was to ensure that genuine contractors who have fulfilled their own side
of obligations were not subjected to unnecessary hardship as a result of doing
jobs for the local government. Mandyau added that his administration was open
for constructive criticism and advises from spirited individuals as governance
is all about inclusiveness. “I want to say that you're free to offer your advice.
Governance is all about what the people want not just about what the leaders
want. So, we believe you would be able to make your inputs just like this
committee has done", said the Chairman.
While presenting
the report earlier, the committee chairman noted that the committee had to go
beyond period given it to submit the report because of unforeseen challenges.
He however, appreciated members of his committee who worked assiduously against
all odds to conclude the assignment in line with its terms of reference. “I
won't sit down until I thank other members of my committee for sacrificing their
personal comfort to come up with this report", he said.
The Chairman on
behalf of other members of the committee thanked the Council for finding them
worthy to render services to the Council and promised to be available if called
upon for other assignments. He was very optimistic that the report would be
useful to the Council.
