A stalwart of the main opposition party in Plateau state, the
Peoples Democratic Party ( PDP), Mr. Isaac Wadak has reiterated the need to
build strong and virile institutions for progress and development of our
country. Wadak said that was the motive in the minds of the founders of the
PDP, which he said remained one of the largest political party in Africa.
The
former PDP Senatorial Aspirant for Plateau Central Senatorial Districtsaid this in an exclusive chat with African Drum in Jos against the backdrop of leadership crisis that
has engulfed the party in the state which he said has already been addressed
and the party is making headway for bigger achievements. " We have already
crossed the red sea. We are not looking back. If a Pharaoh wants to chase us
should know that the sea will consume him", he said. On the two different
letters on the leadership issue in the state purportedly from the national
Secretariat of the party, the stalwart said, " I told you we already have
a direction. There was a directive from the national Secretariat for Hon.
"TheophilusDakas Shan, (the vice Chairman North/Central zone) to over see the
affairs of the party in the state but somewhere along the line, there was a
disrespect to that directive and I believe that promoted the second letter
which has put the issue to rest".
On a particular letter from the Headquarters, Abuja recognizing Damishi Sango as the state Chairman who the
letter is also said to have directed to make necessary arrangement for the
party contingents for Bayelsa election, Wadak said, " You see, it's
important that we always authenticate issues for purpose of clarity. The issue
of the first letter to the best of my knowledge began and ended at the social
media level. It has never been authenticated but the letter to the Dakas Shan
Committee has been authenticated because the committee called a meeting of
stakeholders and addressed them on the content of the letter. I am not aware of
any other meeting called by any other person. Let me make one issue very clear
by saying that there is an established party structures on ground. There is the
CWC, there is the SEC. I have said before in different fora and would continue
to say that we want to build strong institutions not individuals because
institutions outlived individuals.
"The structure of the party gives directives
to party members and says who and who are responsible for what. The working
committee is the organ of the party that I listen to because it has the power
and authority to make pronouncements as regard the development and process of
the party. So, to me, anything that has been said but did not originate from
the organ of the party is of no significance to me. As I said earlier, our
efforts should be geared toward building strong institutions not individuals.
We must also learn to respect our constitution and laid down structures. Nobody
should feel bigger than the constitution or the established structures. That is
my take".
The Plateau PDP chieftain' s submission is coming on the heels of
an emergency meeting of all party stakeholders from the state scheduled for
10am today at the National Secretariat, Abuja.
