MY GREATEST CHALLENGE IS LACK OF RESOURCES- HON JUGU.

Hon Emmanuel Danboyi Jugu is the Management Committee Chairman, Riyom Local Government Council, Plateau State. He granted Interview to some selected Journalists and made more emphasis on the need to maintain the peace that is currently enjoyed in his Community among other vital issues. African Drum was there.

Sir, how do you feel being the chairman of Riyom local government?
Well, I feel elated because this will surely add to my experience in life and it is a great challenge to me because the office entails interacting with people, knowing their problems and to devise means or ways of solving these problems. So, just as I said earlier, it is a very big challenge.

In particular what is the greatest challenge you met on ground?
As a matter of fact, the greatest challenge I met on ground is lack of resources. The people have yearned for change and they got it. So, they want to see the impact of the change mantra on ground. But you know that the desired change cannot be fully achieved without resources. So, that is my biggest challenge. If I have enough resources, definitely, people will see positive change in this local government.

What are the programmes you have outlined for execution?
You see, this local government experienced a lot of crises over the years culminating to loss of lives and properties. So, you need money to resettle those that have been displaced as a result of these crises. We also need money to train the victims in some trade and offer them soft loans to serve as succour and enhance a new lease of life.
Indeed, peace is gradually returning and you need to engage in vigorous campaign on the need to maintain it. We need to engage the people constantly. But you know that each time you go to the people, they always complain of hunger and what that means is that the peace we are yearning for has not been fully restored.
Yes, there is peace because there is no war but another crisis we have at hand is lack of food. We need money to assist the people to settle down and if that is done, we would have achieved much in the area of maintaining peace.

Now that the tenure of local government management committee has been extended by two months, what exactly should your community expect within the period?
In the next two months, we intend to go to the nooks and crannies of the local government to sensitise them most especially on voter registration exercise that is on-going and that of the national identity card also. We would mobilise the people and bring them to the local government headquarters for registration. We also intend to use this opportunity to make sure that the APC is further rooted in the grass root.

Sir, what is your message to Muslim Ummah as they celebrate this year’s Eid-El Kabir?
First and foremost, I want to let you know that I held series of meetings with the Ardos in this community on the need to maintain the peace we have been experiencing. I told them that peace has returned to our community but there are few complaints by some community members of attacks. I also urged them to report strangers in their midst to us because as a result of the incessant crises we had across the country before now, it’s possible that some people might have migrated to our community. So, I urged the Ardos to report such strangers otherwise they would be held responsible in the event of any attack on this community.
That is what I told the Fulani Ardos, and they agreed. On the Sallah message generally, I wish the Muslim Ummah a successful celebration.
I urge them to use the period to pray for Nigeria, Plateau state and Riyom local government. I also want to call on the Muslim leaders to continue to preach peace to their adherents because, without peace, we can never make any progress as a nation.

Thank you very much
You are welcome
