Information reaching African Drum shows that the majority leader of Bassa Local Government Legislative Arm in Plateau state North Central Nigeria, Hon. Emmanuel Dankama Bitrus has been impeached last week and subsequently replaced by Hon. Yakubu Galadima, Councilor representing Kadamo. His impeachment is said to have been necessitated by the fact that he was a stooge of the executive arm of the Council. " The majority Leader was not living to his legislative responsibilities, instead, he turned an informant for the executive arm", said a member of the legislative arm who wouldn't want his name in print. The impeached majority leader is said to have been under close watch by the House as a result of his romance with the executive arm. It is further alleged that his tenure as majority leader was unfruitful as he is said to have done nothing reasonable to improve the legislative process of the Council.

Some members who spoke to African Drum on condition of unanimity said the former majority leader, instead of engaging in acts that will improved legislation, was busy playing a "good boy" to the executive. "His impeachment became imperative as we have to make progress in this locality. We are quite conscious of our responsibilities as law makers. We are supposed to check mate the executive arm and not to serve as its stooge. This is democracy and all arms of government at all levels must exercise their independence to ensure genuine dividends of democracy to the citizenry. Taking into account the issue at hand, the former majority leader is bad news to democracy," said another member on condition of unanimity.

Immediately after the impeachment of the majority leader, the House is said to have also unanimously re- instated Hon. Simon Ashikin Ibisi, the only PDP Councilor representing Kakkek Ward as Minority Leader. Hon. Ibisi is said to have been impeached sometimes in March, 2019 in circumstances described by observers as " funny".

We would keep you informed on the activities in Bassa Local Government Council as regarding both the Executive and the Legislative arms.
