Plateau Southern Zone is a one - stop tourist destination -

The executive
chairman of Mikang Local Government in Plateau state, North- Central Nigeria
and Chairman, Plateau state chapter of the Association of Local Government of
Nigeria ( ALGON), Hon. Ezekiel Vuelgap, has called on investors in and outside
Nigeria to take advantage of abundant potential in Southern Zone of Plateau
State stressing that Government was poised to provide conducive, viable and
safe environment for their investment.
The chairman made
this statement on Tuesday in his speech on the occasion of the 2019 Jos Trade
Fair at Polo Field. The chairman, who spoke on behalf of other chairmen of the
Zone of Plateau state stated that in the area of agriculture, the Zone was blessed with
conducive weather, Climate and vast fertile soil for the cultivation of well -
known staples and exotic crops such as yam, rice, cassava, maize, sorghum,
sweet potato, bambara nut, sugar cane, cotton, Sudan potato, MoringaLifera and
Banana amongst others. He said another important economic activity in the zone
is livestock farming which he said offers great window of opportunities for
investors to harness.
In the area of
Solid Minerals, Hon. Vuelgap said there were abundant industrial mineral
deposits found in the zone which included Barites, Tantalite, Kaolin, Salt,
Marble, Clay, Zircon glass, Quartz, Gemstone, Zinc, Lead, Copper and
Chacophorite. Speaking further, the Council boss said that with its exceptional
landscape and terrain, beautiful scenery and hospitable people, the Southern
Zone of Plateau is no doubt a one - stop tourist destination and a rewarding
place to be. " Among the tourist sites are the famous Wase Rock Game
Reserve in Wase LGA, the Pandam Wildlife Park and Lake, the Lardang Underground
Cave in Quaan Pan, the Trachyte Pillar Heights of the Murchison Hill ( Luham )
in Mikang LGA. Others are; Jalbang Hills, the Doeben and Ruom Ox - Bow Lakes in
Shendam LGA. While in Langtang North, some of the famous tourist sites with
scenic beauty includes NdongLaka Hill, where the famous footprints of the
legendary hunter, NdongLaka and his dog are still visible. Other attractions
are; Kwallak Hills, Maybe Hills, Lagan Hills and Jat Rocks", said the
chairman.

On
industrialization, the ALGON chairman said that apart from Local industries
such as Blacksmithing, Pottery, Carving and Weaving, the people of the Zone
have also ventured into cottage industries and small scale businesses. "
Excellent examples are the Kereksuk industry in Turniang, Quaan Pan LGA which
is into Yam Flour processing and Tim Tali Rice Mills in Langtang North, which
processes Jabdan brand of Rice", he said.
In addition to
all these, Vuelgap said that Southern Zone also prides itself as a miniature
Nigeria where virtually all the ethnic groups were found living peacefully
among the local population. He applauded the untiring efforts of Governor Simon
Lalong for his developmental strides and genuine commitment towards
diversifying the economy in the state through industrialization,
entrepreneurship and agriculture as well as sustenance of peace and security
all over the state. " On this note, we believe Plateau state proudly
remains the ' Home of Peace and Tourism " said Vuelgap.
The ALGON chairman said that the impressive turn out of Certified
Local and Foreign Exhibitors at the 2019 Jos Trade Fair was an eloquent
testimony of the confidence of prospective investors in the economic and
industrial potentials of Plateau state which he said was a viable and safe
haven for investors.
