The protest embarked upon by the Plateau State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party was aimed at creating unnecessary tension. This was the submission of the Plateau State secretary of the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC) Barr. Bashir Musa Sati while speaking to some journalists in Jos on Friday

PDP State Chairman, Hon. Damishi T. Sango in company of his EXCO and some stakeholders of the party had on Thursday delivered a letter of the party on the nationwide protest in view of the recent happenings in Ekiti State involving the police and governor Ayo Fayose for onward delivery to the Inspector-General of Police, I.K. Idris.

However, in his reaction, Sati said the PDP at the national had already staged a protest at the National Assembly expressing its dissatisfaction over what happened in Ekiti on Wednesday adding that there was no point for any branch of the party to stage a similar protest over the same issue.

“D. T. Sango is my elder brother and I wouldn’t want to join issues with him, but since the PDP at National level has already embarked on a protest, there was no point raising unnecessary tension in the State” he said.

On the deployment of 30,000 Police in Ekiti State for the governorship election tomorrow and the controversy the decision has generated, the APC scribe said there is a misconception by many people who believe that the police is an extension of the executive arm of government and therefore answerable to any government that is in place. According to Hon. Bashir, the Nigeria Police has the Police Act and its operations are within the confine of the Act adding that anybody that violates the Act violates the law of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
“The Police are in Ekiti to carry out their lawful functions as directed by the Inspector-General of Police (IGP). It is the duty of any government to protect lives and property its citizens and anything short of this is not acceptable.
The police in its wisdom realised the enormity of the problems currently inherent in Ekiti State which warrants the deployment of the number of its personnel to curtail any breach of law and order. But being what we are, we have condemned that decision.
“Now, assuming a small number was deployed and crisis situation erupted beyond the control of that number, the people would still condemn the decision of the Police. So, you can see that it is in our nature” he said.

Hon. Bashir, said, however Fayose has been enjoying full protection of the Police assigned to him by the federal government and they have always been on ground for his service.
“So, for Fayose to have created a scene on Wednesday and be the lead actor is unfortunate and condemnable” he said.
The scribe said the APC both at the state and at the national levels were intact and formidable more than before.
