A group known as Middle Belt Visionary
Minds is set to host a summit on 21st October, 2017 under the theme:
“Middle-Belt from our Founding Fathers,
Vision Sustained and Advanced or Neglected and Abandoned” to discuss the
way forward for Nigeria. this is contain in text of press briefing held in jos,
the plateau state capital today and a copy made available to African Drum
Magazine. According to the statement, “it is
no longer news that the Nigeria nation state currently faces a number of
critical issues that have constantly threatened our existence as one indivisible
entity. Ranging from the ultimatum that came from one Arewa consultative youth
forum, the declaration of the Biafran State by the IPOB and the incessant attacks
on the minority tribes by the Fulani herdsmen amongst many issues, if permitted
would also mention government insensitivity.
“However what is news today is
the emergence of the Middle-Belt Visionary Minds (MVM) a movement born out of deep
concern and genuine burden for national cohesion. Conscious of our unique
identity peculiar to us alone, we are committed to lending our voices to nation
building”.
The statement added that “We have
in recent times carefully been following the agitation for or against
restructuring arising from different quarters in this nation and one will
wonder how much of this agitation is driven by a quest for national progress. As
patriots, we are determined to a solution drive process. It is in the light of
this, that the Middle-Belt Visionary Minds is set to host a summit/symposium on
the way forward for our great nation, Nigeria.
The event is to bring
participants from across the Middle-Belt region to deliberate and present a
common position on the agitations for secession and restructuring. Features at
the event will include public lecture, paper presentation, panel discussion, questions
and answers and a communiqué from the region. The summit, in a bid to create
awareness seeks to answer questions such as, where did we come from? Who we
are? Where are we going?” The group further said that it is
much aware of the existence and struggle of other groups from the region that
have consistently voiced out the pains of the marginalized minority tribes in Nigeria.
And so we are very committed to driving our mandate with them in mind and in
our activities, their patriotism to the region and the nation is worthy of
note.
