Obasanjo Model School Hwolshe, Jos South Local Government Area of Plateau state has been chosen as a pilot for the Federal Government Special Intervention Programme called, N- Power Junior. This was disclosed to African Drum on Wednesday in Jos, by the Executive Assistant to the Governor of Plateau State Rt. Hon. Simon Bako Lalong on Social Intervention Programme, Dr. Sumaye Hamza According to Dr. Hamza,N-power Junior is a special intervention programme introduced by the office of the Vice President and Plateau state happened to be a state selected as a pilot to the North-Central region of Nigeria. According to Hamza, “a team from the office of Vice President came and we went round some schools and we eventually chose as a pilot, Obasanjo Model school because it has group A,B C.  Consequently, the population that would benefit would be almost 2000 which is better than a single school were you have a population of 600”. The Executive Assistant noted that the pilot was necessary because it would determine replication in other states of the Federation.“First, the pilot would be done and report would be given on it. Thereafter, replication would continue”, she said.

Hamza further stated that the aim of the programme was to target and increased knowledge of ICT where there would be construction or renovations of existing structures and equipping and powered such structures with Solar stressing that the project was 100 per cent funded by the Federal Government and that the state government only needed to provide space and give the maximum cooperation so that children could learned computer hands-on without any challenge just like any other child in an affluent environment.

Also speaking, Ola Rotimi Shodimu, the team leader in charge of the N-power Project in the area of construction of classrooms and equipping them with computer and furniture said the project would have positive impact in the educational system.

“The plan is to see how the learning environment can be re-positioned to create conducive learning environment for students and to promote ICT knowledge” he said.
Shodimu who was seen at the construction site inside the Obasanjo Model School at Hwolshe, said that when the structure is finally completed and the programme taken off hopefully before the end of the year, a pupil would be expected to be attached to a computer system for easy learning.
